General Introduction

Vivekananda Welfare Foundation (VWF) was established in 2015 on the occasion of the Birth Anniversary of Swami Vivekananda, the great youth icon of India. Officially, VWF is registered on 20th December , 2018 in the office of Registrar of Societies , Home Department, Kohima, Nagaland under Societies Registration Act , 1860 with registation No. HOME/SRC-7298. Vivekananda Welfare Foundation (VWF) is a non-profitable and Non-Governmental Organization with socio-charitable activities as its primary objective and selfless service of humanity as its pivotal philosophy. It is a humanitarian organization inspired by the spiritual and humanistic ideals of Swami Vivekananda. The Foundation has been formed to effectively implement the broad vision of Swami Vivekananda and His Mission; the vision of reaching out to more and more people around the country, and touching their lives with love, care and kindness, bringing smiles on every face.

Our Story

Background & Beginnings

At VWF, we view social upliftment as our moral responsibility and not as any favour to the society. The Foundation endeavours to heal (health), Enrich (Education) and Empower (Upliftment) the underprivileged and needy sections of the society, with the ideology of oneness at the core.

The operation of the Foundation has been concentrated and is committed to continue to expand in the areas of Health & Medical Care, Educational Aid, and Mass Empowerment (Women & Youth Empowerment). Apart from these areas, VWF also concentrates on Disaster Management & Relief Work , Environment and social awareness programme etc. With the principal commitment to spiritual awakening, the Vivekananda Welfare Foundation participates in several social-welfare activities to implement the message of Swami Vivekananda. Swamiji says, “There are hundreds of poor and helpless people in your neighborhood; you have to serve them to the best of your ability. You will have to nurse and procure food and medicine for the sick. You will have to feed those who have nothing to eat. You will have to teach the ignorant. My advice to you is that if you want peace of mind, you shall have to serve others to the best of your ability.” To act on the motive, Vivekananda Welfare Foundation came into existence.

Foundation evinces absorbing interest in the field of Education by providing free education to the poor and meritorious students of many schools and colleges. Besides, The Foundation is also intimately connected with the upliftment of the underprivileged and needy sections of the society, including instant help to the victims of natural calamities.

For the last past years, VWF has worked towards Education, Health and Mass Empowerment, Disaster management & Relief work and social welfare activities and total care and overall development of children who are highly vulnerable to exploitation, victimization and trafficking etc. It also conducts many more humanitarian activities for the destitute and uncared, including elderly and shelter-less.

VWF provides all opportunities for education and overall child development in a loving and caring atmosphere through its Free Educational Project & Initiative -PRATIBHA.

In 2015, a 35 year old young man having an experience in the field of teaching was driven by the inspiring exhortation of Swami Vivekananda of selfless service to those in suffering and make one’s life with them. This youngman, Mr. Niranjan Saha , thus inspired by spiritual and humanistic ideals of Ramakrishna-Vivekananda, resolved to devote his entire life for serving ‘Divine in Man’ as taught by Swami Vivekananda. With just 4 family members in a small house on the outskirts of Dimapur, Nagaland , he founded an NGO called Vivekananda Welfare Foundation with a motto to Serve the Humanity and with a mission to empower the youths of the state and transform lives through sustainable livelihoods.

Gradually people began to be inspired by his dedicated service and started to support the initiative and the number of members and volunteers at VWF grew. The mission of VWF and theme began to attract dedicated youths of the town who also came forward to serve selflessly for the downtrodden and less fortunate people of the state through VWF.
